Creative Process & Techniques

  • I mainly paint on canvas or paper using acrylics, spray paint, ink, and collage elements.

  • I grew up in a small French town in the Vosges, not far from Strasbourg, famous for giving America its name. In 1507, a map was printed in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, which was the first to include a fourth continent, in addition to Europe, Asia, and Africa. It was here, among tales of distant lands and brave explorers, that my fascination with the world beyond my doorstep took root.

I spent all my formative years surrounded by these tales of discoveries, exploration and connection. As I transitioned from the innocence of youth into the complexities of adulthood, the allure of the unknown called to me. Pursuing studies in anthropology, I sought to understand the tapestry of human culture. Then, at the age of 25, I made a life-altering move to the United States, embracing the role of an explorer in my own life story. The years that followed were filled with travel, each destination offering new insights and inspirations, weaving a rich mosaic of experiences that would deeply influence my work.

This background of exploration, of constantly seeking and discovering, naturally found its way into the heart of my creative process. For me, art has always been a reflection of life — a medium through which the tales of our existence are told. My creative process begins with an emotion, a fleeting moment of connection with the world around me. From this spark, I embark on a journey with no fixed destination, allowing the creative currents to guide me.

In my studio, I delve into this process of exploration and creation. Using a variety of media, I experiment with textures and colors, each stroke a testament to the places I've seen and the stories I've heard. The vibrant colors speak of the diverse cultures that have enriched my understanding of the world, while the characters that emerge are echoes of the people I've met along my journey. My artworks are living entities, evolving with each new experience and insight. It is through this creative practice that I seek to capture the essence of discovery, the joy of exploration, and the interconnectedness of our world.

  • Sewing in my art adds both a visual and linear dimension, paying tribute to its history as a domestic craft. I choose bold colors like orange for its association with the vibrancy and urgency of street life, aiming to create a striking contrast between the energy of the streets and the comforting, familiar quality of the stitched seams.
